On September 1, Seinan Gakuin University (SGU) concluded a“Foreign Law System Master Course Program – Law of Europe and Law of Japan Course” with Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille 3 (UPC), one of our partner institutions in order to train students of both universities to become business persons well acquainted with business law in Japan and Europe. This agreement aims at bringing up highly talented people who can actively work in the field dealing with negotiations, contracts, disputes or lawsuits between companies in Japan and ones in Europe.
SGU is the second institution in Japan which made this agreement with UPC. G.W. Barkley, the president of SGU, and Mark Pena, the president of UPC, attended the signing ceremony, and the both presidents signed the agreement in Aix-en-Provence. This agreement allows for the exchange of two graduate students per year from each institution; the exchange students from SGU would take courses about European Law at UPC in French while the exchange students from CPU would take courses about Law of Japan at SGU in Japanese. They are required to take training programs at corporations for two months. Once they finish the master’s course at UPC, they will be given a degree of “Master 2, Law of Corporations” by the French Government. According to UPC, this is a very unique program for grandes écoles to feature especially with research in comparative law between Japan and Europe, and they highly expect that the both universities will enrich study in this field.
Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille 3 was established under the permission of the Pope in 1409, which is one of the oldest universities in France after Université de Paris and Université de Toulouse. It is traditionally known for its academically high ranking in the social sciences. The department of law has a long history of attracting internationally recognized researchers.
